DEFINITION OF SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is a much-discussed topic; it has now become an obsession.

It's the keyword on social media, in supermarkets, on TV and in newspapers.

But do we really know what it means?

Sustainability and sustainable development are derived from the coexistence of three areas: economic, social and environmental.

This means that to be sustainable, one cannot only look at one specific aspect of these three areas, but must take into account the impacts generated on society, the environment and also the economy.

For this reason, we could never define a company, or a society, as sustainable if it is committed to protecting the environment and uses child labor or underpaid workers to do so, just as a company that protects the environment, treats its workers well, but goes bankrupt after a year, cannot be sustainable either.

At the heart of sustainability is above all the well-being of people, which includes environmental and social impact, but also the well-being and happiness of those who work there.

Considering these three aspects, giving each the same importance, is the true key to sustainability.

We cannot separate the environment and people, because the truth is that we are the same thing.
